About Me

My photo
Wyoming, United States
I'm a true, independent western critter, born and raised in Wyoming and so proud of that fact. I was blest with a dad who loved and respected the great outdoors and taught us to do the same. I've been able to pass that on to our children. I hope we can get to know each other and share the ups and downs of our lives.

A New Year

This is the 2nd day of the year 2011. There's snow on the ground and the temperature is hovering around 5 degrees above zero. I have to go back to work tomorrow after having more than a week off and spending high quality time with Rachel, Greg and our wonderful grandkids.

I'm very thankful that I have a job waiting for me and co-workers that will be glad I'm back.

We never know just what is ahead of us and what the new year will bring. We do know what is behind us and it is our job to learn from that and to try to take what steps we can to make the lives of those around us easier and happier.

I'm not one to make New Year's Resolutions, however, I'm going to try even harder to do or say something to the people I encounter so when they walk away they will have a smile on their face and step at least a little lighter.

Best wishes for you to have a wonderful 2011

We recently went exploring a new road, actually, an old road that was new to us. We came across this little fawn. It was about the size of a Terrier and was really fast. It thought it was hidden from us, however, as you can see, we found it anyway. It's such a blessing when we see the things created out in the wilds with no assistance from mankind.

I feel so truly blest to live where we can see a scene like this one. Hundreds of square miles of "nothing" stretches out before you. On a clear day you can see the distant mountains. The "nothing" that you see is filled with wild animals, birds, plants. They are only visible to the person who takes the time to look for them.

Many years ago our Mother wrote a poem comparing each of us kids to the flower she believed we were most like. I don't remember all of the details but I do remember that she said that Jennie was like a rambling rose. That was so very true. Jennie always walked to the beat of a different drummer-until the director of the band made her conform to his wishes.

She taught me so much about finding out who I am and being myself and appreciating my own independent spirit.

She's been gone for over a year now from this earth but her "rambling spirit" will live in my heart forever.

Living here in the Rocky Mountains fall is a time for mixed emotions.

You've worked diligently all summer to grow a garden and beautify

your home with flowers. You know that all it will take is one hard

freeze and it will be gone. Then you will be hauling off all of the spent

plants.

There is some excitement in the air as the hunting seasons open for

large game animals. The flocks of geese fly over, gathering to head

south for the winter. The hummingbirds depart for warmer places.

The trees start turning colors and the beautiful green vines of summer

turn to brilliant oranges and reds.

Yes, I like to have my emotions stirred and I certainly enjoy living

where there really are 4 seasons.
